KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. -- The Knightstown Police Department is preparing to add a new adorable officer to their force.

Duke, a 19-month-old German Shepherd, is expected to become the newest Knightstown K-9 officer.

The community, local organizations and businesses have been raising money to help fund a new K-9 for the Knightstown Police Department. Together, they raised more than $26,000 that will be used to purchase Duke and pay for his training and care.

Duke is currently spending time with the officer that will be his partner to start the bonding process and to ensure that he’ll be a good fit to the force before the police department officially purchases him and begins training.

The Knightstown Police Department says if everything goes well, Duke should start his training in mid-November or early December.
