INDIANAPOLIS -- Good news for people in Indianapolis who live near vacant and abandoned houses.

Mayor Joe Hogsett is promising a renewed effort to deal with those houses as part of his strategy to fight crime.

"Abandoned homes was one of the topics of conversation that is of the highest importance for the first 100 days in office to make sure we are understanding across department lines and trying to address redevelopment from our enforcement efforts," said Jeff Bennett, Indianapolis Deputy Mayor.

The new administration also plans a comprehensive inventory of vacant and abandoned properties, which hasn't happened for more than 12 years.

In addition, the city plans to connect local neighborhood associations with city enforcement agencies for what it calls a comprehensive and holistic approach to the problem.
