Homeowners say road improvements are an inconvenience

No more left turns out of subdivision

PLAINFIELD, Ind. -- Some central Indiana homeowners are fired up about what were supposed to be improvements to their neighborhood.

Instead those improvements have turned into restrictions, making it tougher for them to get in and out of the Medallion Meadows subdivision.

"They started cutting out the road and building a median, so we can't turn into our neighborhood coming from Plainfield where there are grocery stores, pharmacies, things like that," said Jennifer Boyce, homeowner.

The construction of a new gas station on U.S. 40 means that a new median effectively cuts off left-hand turns out of the neighborhood.

Even the town admits it's an inconvenience, but it was done for safety reasons.

Police say that the nearby intersection of U.S. 40 and Ronald Reagan Parkway can be dangerous.

"Primarily there are property damage accidents and low speed crashes; however, the contributing factor in these cases is failure to yield the right of way," said Capt. Jill Lees, Plainfield Police.

The town has offered options for homeowners including u-turns, but many see that as dangerous.

"I came up Ronald Reagan and I was making a u-turn and a semi was making a right turn as I was turning. This is going to go on," said Dave Foreman, resident.

Plainfield officials say that while the subdivision isn't technically part of the town, they are looking into several suggestions to improve ways for those homeowners to get around.
