INDIANAPOLIS -- Hoosier families hurt by foreclosure could cash in on a $2 million settlement.
Mortgage lender and servicer HSBC is agreeing to make the payments and will begin accepting claims by Thursday.
When the housing bubble popped in 2008, many Hoosier families lost their homes to foreclosure because of the abuses, in part, from mortgage lenders like HSBC.
Now, more than 2,810 families are eligible to get a payment to cover a small fraction of their loss. Individual payments will start at $780.
If eligible, you should have received a postcard weeks ago. Official instruction packets will be mailed out Wednesday.
The settlement covers HSBC-related foreclosures from 2008-2012. Forms are due November 1.
If you don't remember if HSBC was your mortgage lender, you can check by calling 1-888-538-5792 or visiting their website at www.nationalmortgagesettlement.com.
