ANDERSON — Eulala Roettger is going strong at 100.

The retired teacher's 100th birthday was celebrated Thursday at St. Vincent Anderson Hospital, where she's volunteered for 20 years.

Roettger spends two or three afternoons a week at the reception desk in the Erskine Medical Office Building on the St. Vincent campus.

Anderson Mayor Thomas Broderick presented Roettger with a Community Service Recognition Award, and State Representative Terri Austin gave her a Distinguished Hoosier Award on behalf of Governor Eric Holcomb.

"She is an amazing person," said hospital program coordinator Elizabeth Hart. "I don't know if any other organization has a 100-year-old volunteer as sharp as Eulala. She drives a sporty Mini Cooper, has an email account and is also on Facebook."
