KOKOMO, Ind. -- Following an anonymous tip to the Kokomo School Corporation, a 16-year-old student was arrested Wednesday for harassment involving a computer network or other form of electronic communication and carrying a handgun without a permit.

School officials contacted Kokomo police and they located the teen at a residence on the north side.

Kokomo police say no active threat exists at any Kokomo School Corporation building and this was an isolated incident. A statement was sent to parents late Thursday morning:

"Parents, we are aware of this concern. The Kokomo Police Department arrested a student off school property Wednesday night, and no active threat exists at Kokomo High School."

The teen was taken to the Kinsey Youth Center. No injuries were reported.

According to the school district, per Indiana law, any student confirmed to have been in possession of a gun (weapon) on school grounds, receives an automatic 365-day expulsion.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact Capt. Teresa Galloway at (765) 456-7326, or the Kokomo Police Department hotline at (765) 456-7017.
