HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. -- The Howard County Sheriff's Department wants to help churches better protect parishioners.
Authorities say they were working on the project well before Sunday's mass shooting in Texas.
The sheriff's department will help churches create custom safety plans for any emergency.
"How to look at your facilities and ask yourself, do I leave all my doors open during worship or do I secure some doors and at a certain time have everyone come in through one entrance? Have you done fire drills," said John Murdoch, Director of Chaplaincy Services.
Churches in Howard County that are interested in getting a safety assessment can contact the sheriff's department.
