KOKOMO — A person shot by a Kokomo police officer Monday night was flown to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment.

According to Kokomo Police Major Brian Seldon, the incident happened just after 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot behind a Goodwill store on Markland Avenue, just east of U.S. 931. That's about 50-miles north of Indianapolis.

Seldon said police were sent to the area to investigate reports of shots filed. The first officer to arrive found a "male subject" standing outside a truck. "The subject displayed a handgun," according to Seldon. "The officer fired shots injuring the suspect. The officer immediately called for medics to the scene to render aid."

After initial treatment at a nearby Kokomo hospital, the person was flown to Indianapolis.

Names of those involved are not being released by police. Anyone who can help Kokomo PD with the case is asked to call Captain Mike Banush at: 765-456-7278 or the Kokomo Police Hotline at: 765-456-7016
