BOONE COUNTY -- Boone County is one of the few in Indiana that does not have an animal shelter.
Stray or surrendered animals that are waiting for their owner, or to be adopted, are placed in foster homes.
A lot along Perry Worth Road has been donated for a shelter and plans for the building have been drawn up.
A local organization says it will pay for roof installation, flooring, heating and air conditioning.
Still, the Humane Society for Boone County needs a few hundred thousand dollars to move the project forward.
In the future, they would also like to hire the county's first animal control officer.
