INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man accused of kidnapping, imprisoning and raping a woman for four days in July was taken into custody Thursday.

Maurice Nelson, 28, was identified as the suspect in the case in late July after a neighbor heard her screaming in Nelson's basement and called police.

The woman told investigators Nelson had sprayed her with pepper spray, beaten her up and then handcuffed her before walking her to his basement, where shackled her to the floor and chained her by the neck to a pole.

She said he then repeatedly raped and threatened her.

IMPD said Nelson had been arrested Thursday morning.

Nelson faces multiple criminal charges, including three counts of rape, one count of criminal confinement, and multiple counts of battery.
