INDIANAPOLIS -- Troy Riggs, the chief of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, said police officers should be held to a higher standard, but that Indianapolis has worked hard at improving community relationships.
"Just in the first 100 days of the Hogsett administration, we've had over 100 community meetings, we've changed the way we've deployed officers as a result," Riggs said. "We held a national forum, regarding police and community relations before these issues were developing."
He also said this type of violence "could happen anywhere in the United States," saying Indianapolis in particular continues to see many officers fired upon.
Riggs also said IMPD, which already has plans for active shooters, will be taking a closer look at the emergency procedures should a situation like Dallas arise in Indianapolis.
