INDIANAPOLIS -- A man found dead inside a crashed car last week was the victim of a homicide.
Eddie Lee Stringer, 59, was found around 10 a.m. in a car on the 3600 block of West Cossell Road.
Investigators initially believed Stringer died as a result of the crash, but the Marion County Coroner said Wednesday that the official cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.
Kimery Hutcherson says she's known Stringer her whole life. The two have a son together.
"I don't know if he had enemies or not but they way things are going now in life you don't have to have enemies for people to murder you, you just walk down the street and they just shoot your for nothing," said Hutcherson.
Hutcherson wonders how investigators initially missed signs of the homicide.
"If they had looked at it really well they should have seen that he had got shot in the head," said Hutcherson.
Police say they found blood in the car but it wasn't really apparent that Stringer had been shot.
They also don't know the location were Stringer was shot, whether he was shot inside the car, or what motivated the shooting.
"I pray to God that the next time they go out and have to... forensics goes out or the police go out, detectives, that they would do a better job next time," said Hutcherson.
IMPD says homicide investigators did respond to the scene.
Police are looking for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious, such as gunshots, along Cossell Road the morning of March 14.
