INDIANAPOLIS — A man is said to be suffering from minor injuries after he was struck by a stray bullet that fell from the sky on New Year's Day, according to Indy Metro Police.

IMPD says the incident occurred just before 6 a.m. in the 4300 block of S High School Road. Officers found the man suffering from injuries.

WRTV spoke with Gabriel West, the man hit with the bullet.

"It aches. It feels like a ball peen hammer hit me in the head," said West. "Lucky to be alive."

West told WRTV he was in the midst of his normal morning routine at work when he was hit. At first, he thought it was a rock.

"My vision went white. I heard a high-pitch in my ears, and I was just about passed out from it." West recalled. "I put my hand under my beanie and saw blood all over my hands."

After this morning, West feels that he's lucky to be alive, and wants people to think twice before firing towards the sky.

"Be mindful of what you're doing. Things that go into the sky come down out of the sky. What goes up comes down. Just stop. I mean, it's gonna hurt somebody, and today it was me."

An investigation into this incident is underway.
