INDIANAPOLIS - A man was arrested Friday afternoon after police say employees of the store he was trying to steal from as well as a bystander stopped him from leaving the store.

An officer on patrol near the Family Dollar on Prospect Street noticed a fight outside the store around 2 p.m.

After calling for backup the officer detained Kenneth Reynolds, 52, who employees at the store told him was trying to steal laundry detergent from the store.

The employees said that when Reynolds went to leave the store with the stolen detergent they tried to stop him. He told them he had a gun, but the employee blocked the exit, causing Reynolds to become violent and try to push his way through the door.

That's when they told  police two other employees and a good samaritan got involved, holding him to the ground.

Robbery detectives were able to confirm witness statements with surveillance video.

Reynolds was arrested and preliminarily charged with Robbery.

The crime remains under investigation.
