INDIANAPOLIS -- Happy 199th birthday, Indiana! On December 11, 1816, Indiana became the 19th state to join the union.
There are several celebrations planned for the state's birthday.
Gov. Mike Pence is hosting more than 500 fourth graders at the Statehouse. That event is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.
Gov. Pence will also be kicking off the state's bicentennial year. He is expected to unveil the torch to be used in next year's relay.
The Indiana State Museum is also holding a special event. Kids can work on several crafts while learning about Indiana's history.
In addition, there will be flag ceremonies in all 92 counties at noon.
