Indiana cities rank well on national cost of living list

INDIANAPOLIS -- Looking for a new place to live? How about you save some money and stay in Indiana?

Niche.com, a real estate website that releases rankings about cities across the country, recently ranked the cities with the lowest cost of living in America. 

Indiana showed up in the list four times, with Fort Wayne, Evansville, South Bend and Indianapolis all in the top 25.

Fort Wayne and Evansville took No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

The ranking took the following factors into consideration:

  • Home value to income ratio
  • Median effective property tax
  • Median home value
  • Median rent
  • Monthly housing cost to income ratio
  • CPI gas index
  • CPI grocery index
  • Rent to income ratio
