INDIANAPOLIS -- House Speaker John Boehner's resignation announcement caught most people by surprise, including fellow Republicans on Capitol Hill.

"Well, agree with John Boehner or disagree with John Boehner, the American people have seen today why his colleagues -- so many of them love him -- and he puts his country first and treats everyone with dignity and respect and wakes up everyday and tries to do the right things for the right reasons," Rep. Luke Messer said in an interview with RTV6.

"Frankly, I think he did the right thing for the right reasons today. His announcement gives us an opportunity to come together as a conference and come together as a Congress which I think we need to do now."
