Senate Bill 137 would completely eliminate the statue of limitations for rape cases in Indiana.

A senator from Hammond authored the bill that would allow prosecutors to file rape charges at any time.

Right now, the statute of limitations is five years.

Lawmakers passed a law that went into effect in July that extended the time limit for prosecuting rape under certain circumstances such as when a suspect confesses or when DNA evidence is discovered.
