INDIANAPOLIS -- Northwest Indiana will lose a 140,000-square-foot distribution center and as many as 150 jobs to Chicago's south side, the company announced last week.
The current Whole Foods Market distribution center located in Munster, Indiana, will relocate to the Pullman neighborhood on the south side of Chicago.
Whole Foods Market Midwest Regional President Michael Bashaw said the new location would allow the grocery chain to "more conveniently serve our 25 Chicagoland locations."

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel used the announcement to take a shot at neighboring Indiana, with whom Chicago and Illinois as a whole often compete for jobs.
“This is another great day for the Pullman/Roseland community and another bad day for Indiana, and I’m a very happy person," Emanuel said during the announcement Thursday, according to DNAInfo.com.
In a press release from Emanuel's office, the city said it will consider approximately $7.4 million in tax increment financing assistance for Whole Foods' development costs.
