BRYANT, Ind. (AP) -- A rural Jay County man is charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend's infant child.

The Commercial Review in Portland reports 21-year-old Dalton R. Davis is being held without bond at Jay County Jail on the murder charge. Jay County Prosecutor Wes Schemenaur says he plans to file formal charges on Thursday.

Sheriff's deputies were called to the home Davis shared with his girlfriend and her daughter, 5-week-old Lillian Grace Lloyd, early Wednesday. The child was not breathing and was transported to Bluffton Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

According to authorities, preliminary indications are the child died of severe blunt force trauma.

Davis was arrested following an investigation conducted by Jay County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State Police and the Department of Child Services.
