PLAINFIELD — Members of the Indiana National Guard are preparing to deploy to Southwest Asia as part of "Task Force Spartan."

A ceremony for the troops deploying was held Saturday at Plainfield High School.

The Indiana Guard members that are being deployed are all engineers with the 113th Engineer Battalion.

Like many soldiers who deploy, Sergeant Jason Roll will be leaving his wife and kids behind when he goes on his mission.

"I just hope they understand we are here to do the job of our country," Sgt. Roll said. "That is something they won't be able to grasp for a while. I hope they understand one day we are doing it for the best reason possible."

Sgt. Roll says he has had several months to prepare for his deployment and his wife has a strong support system at home to help her, while he's overseas.

The troops will head to Fort Hood in Texas to complete mobilization training before being sent to southwest Asia as part of Task Force Spartan.
