NEW CASTLE, Ind. -- A 6-year-old girl died of the flu in Henry County this week – the state's first death from the flu in a patient under 50 this season.

The Henry County Coroner's Office said 6-year-old Jenna Mosier's death was officially being attributed to a bad case of the flu.

The death comes amid a notably mild flu season. As of Friday, only nine people had died from the illness – all of them over the age of 50.

As of this time last year, Indiana had 129 flu deaths for the season, according to numbers released by the Indiana State Department of Health last week.
