INDIANAPOLIS -- Tuition will be going up at two Indiana universities next year.

Board of Trustees at Indiana State University and Ball State University both approved the tuition increases on Wednesday.

Indiana University's Board of Trustees approved "modest" tuition and fee increases on Wednesday that will take effect over the next two years.

At IU Bloomington and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, the undergraduate tuition rates for residents will increase by 1.4 percent each year.

The increase will equal $145.46 at IU Bloomington and $128.66 at IUPUI for 2017-18.

Nonresident undergraduate tuition will increase 1.75 percent over the next two years.

Tuition increases for undergraduates at IU's five regional campuses (IU East, IU Kokomo, IU Northwest, IU South Bend and IU Southeast) will increase 1.9 percent each of the next two years. Students will see an increase of $134.36 at those campuses.

At Ball State, the Board of Trustees approved a 1.25 percent rate increase, the smallest the university has seen in the last 40 years.

The board also approved a 2 percent increase in the salary funding pool for faculty and professional employees at Ball State University. $180,000 will be allocated specifically for faculty promotions.
