INDIANAPOLIS --  A group of business, civic and community leaders met Friday in Indianapolis to discuss ways to improve race and cultural relations in the city.

The Race and Cultural Relations Leadership Network gathers monthly to talk about ways to improve the quality of life of everyone who lives in Indianapolis and comes to visit the city.

Friday's meeting was especially timely given the recent deaths of black men killed by police and the fatal shooting of five police officers in Dallas.

The group focused their conversation on those events and what City of Indianapolis can do to improve relations among all groups of people.

"Every part of the community needs to kind of own this one, recognize there is a need for commitment all across the board at all levels whether it be policy makers, corporate leadership, civic leadership, other cultural, religious leadership, everybody has got a stake in this," said Toby Miller, RCRLN Director.

Members of the group said they believe the way to stop more lives being lost in officer-involved shootings is to continue to have open forums where ideas can be exchanged.
