INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis International Airport has once again been voted best in the country. This time it won the award for best medium-sized airport in North America based on the J.D. Power 2019 North American AIrport Satisfaction Survey.

This is the second time in the past four years that the Indy airport has won this particular award from J.D. Power. The last time was in 2016, and the Indy airport was also named "best small airport" back in 2010. Not only that, but they've rated in the top three every year the study has been published.

JD Power recognized the Indy airport for its outstanding facilities based on six key factors:

  • Airport Accessability (getting to and leaving the airport)
  • Check-in/Baggage Check
  • Security Check
  • Food
  • Beverage and Retail
  • Terminal Facilities (concourses, lounges, signage, restrooms and gate areas)
  • Baggage Claim

“We want our reputation to be synonymous with excellence,” said Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez. “The J.D. Power airport satisfaction survey results show that passengers rate the Indy airport as the best.”

The Indianapolis airport ranked first in the areas of cleanliness of terminal concourses, hallways and restrooms, comfort in the terminal, ambiance and Wi-Fi services.

The Indy airport's overall satisfaction score was 833 out of 1,000.

“The passenger feedback from the study confirms that our strategy is on point, for now and into the future with a mix of national and local food, beverage and retail concession brands that share the culture of Indianapolis – and a growing list of passenger amenities that make traveling more convenient and enjoyable," said Rodriguez.

The Indy airport isn't new to accolades, in recent years it has been recognized by Airports Council International, Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure and TripAdvisor.

“This ranking is most-certainly an accolade to celebrate, but the credit for achieving that accolade goes to the many people at IND who work diligently to create a top-notch experience for the more than 9.4 million people who travel through Indianapolis each year," said IAA Board President Barbara Glass. "It's people who make the difference, and this honor is proof of that.”

“Indianapolis International Airport is one of the best airports in the country, greeting guests from around the globe as they arrive in Indianapolis,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “It’s an honor but not a surprise to have an organization like J. D. Power once again recognize our outstanding facilities, highlighting the continued investment and exceptional level of service provided by IAA and all airport employees.”
