INDIANAPOLIS — A 21-year-old Indianapolis man is on trial for a 2017 murder that left a young woman dead and her husband wounded.
Damarcus Jackson faces murder, attempted murder and robbery charges, according to Marion County court records.
His trial began Monday.
In April of 2017, 23-year-old Lonneisha Wellington was shot to death and her husband, Alexis Wellington, was wounded at the Phoenix Apartments on Meadows Drive.
According to information from the Marion County Prosecutor, the Wellingtons were returning home with groceries when Jackson shot both of them in a stairwell.
The couple's two small children were present and one of them told police she heard the man, believed to be Jackson, tell her parents to "put down the groceries," after which he shot the adults.
Lonneisha died at the scene, while Alexis was critically wounded.
