INDIANAPOLIS—An Indianapolis judge has handed down a 55-year prison sentence to a 27-year-old woman convicted of murder.
10-years of Briana Wilson's sentence was suspended.
In June, jurors found Wilson guilty in the April 2017 shooting death of 28-year-old Maurice Martinez.
He was shot three times outside Wilson's apartment on the city's southeast side.
According to information from the Marion County Prosecutor, the shooting occurred after Martinez, the victim, discovered his money was missing while visiting Wilson at her home. Trial testimony indicated Wilson had invited Martinez over and told him to bring his "bankroll."
At the time of the murder, Wilson told police that Martinez had threatened to kill her and was going to his car to get his gun. Investigators, however, did not find a gun.
Wilson said Martinez was approaching her when she shot him, but that account was thrown into question when an autopsy determined Martinez suffered fatal gunshot wounds to his back.
