INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A $1 million federal transportation grant will help Indianapolis’ bike-share program nearly double the availability of the rentable bikes by next year.
Mayor Joe Hogsett announced Tuesday that the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant from the Federal Highway Administration will allow the Indiana Pacers Bikeshare program to add 25 bike stations and 250 bikes. Indianapolis currently has 29 bike stations and 275 bicycles available for rent.
Hogsett says the funding will allow the program to add more locations downtown and expand to surrounding neighborhoods, the Monon Trail and Broad Ripple.
Hogsett says the city will begin hosting public sessions next month to gather feedback about where new bike stations should be located.
Pacers Bikeshare also plans to launch a business partnership program for companies that want stations near their business.
