13-year-old girl sexually assaulted on Indianapolis' northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS – A 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted Friday morning while standing at a bus stop.

The girl told Indianapolis Metropolitan Police she was waiting on an IPS school bus in the 5600 block of East 38th Street when a man she didn’t know forced her to a nearby location and sexually assaulted her around 7 a.m.

He then fled the area on foot.

Officers described the suspect as a tall, thin African-American male, wearing black pants and a black shirt.

Investigators said the student did not report the incident until later in the day.

Child abuse detectives and IMPD officers said the case is ongoing.

Indianapolis Public Schools released a statement on the incident:

This morning, a 13-year-old student was allegedly assaulted while waiting at the bus stop. The incident is under investigation by the Indianapolis Metro Police Department. Student safety is our number one priority and IPS Police will patrol the stop in the mornings and afternoons until further notice.
