INDIANAPOLIS -- Vice President Pence's October visit to Indianapolis, that included a Colts game, cost the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department more than $14,000.

Pence was scheduled to attend the October 8 game where Peyton Manning's jersey was retired and he was inducted into the team's Ring of Honor.

Before the game started, Pence tweeted that he was "looking forward to cheering for our Colts and the great career of No. 18 Peyton Manning."

The vice president and his wife left the game immediately following the national anthem after the 49ers took a knee.

IMPD says it cost $14,163 to provide protection for Pence while he was in town. The police department will have to absorb that cost.

Five Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives sent the vice president a letter on Oct. 20urging him to repay the full cost of his travel and expenses for that day.

The letter claims that Pence left the Colts game on Oct. 8 as a publicity stunt, and the Trump-Pence re-election campaign used the act to solicit donations.
