INDIANAPOLIS -- A 16-year-old has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a deadly fire in Pike Township Thursday evening.
Firefighters were called to the home in the 7200 block of Highland Road just before 11 p.m.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives say one adult and two children evacuated from the home before firefighters arrived but a second adult was still inside the home.
Pike firefighters were able to rescue the man, identified as Jason Doan, 45, and he was sent to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.
Doan and his husband, Alan Marin, adopted three children together.
"He saved me and my kids," Marin said. "He gave his life for us, making sure we were OK. He got me out with my kids and told me to take them to a save place. That was his priority -- our kids -- making sure they were safe."
