INDIANAPOLIS — With the holiday shopping season officially underway, police are warning residents to take steps to make sure you don’t fall victim to package thieves.
Even though most Black Friday packages haven’t been delivered or shipped yet, people are already reporting that their packages have been stolen. In the last 10 days, 11 police reports have been filed for stolen packages.
Police are warning people to take steps to make sure your Black Friday or Cyber Monday order doesn’t end up in the wrong hands.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has the following tips for residents:
- Ask to sign for your packages once it is delivered
- Buy insurance on expensive items
- Have packages delivered to your work
- Set up notifications for tracking your package and monitor to see when it will be delivered
- Ask a neighbor or friend you trust to grab your package once it’s delivered
- Ask the United State Postal Service to hold your mail if you are going out of town
