INDIANAPOLIS -- A 63-year-old woman was injured after a car plowed into a bus stop shelter on Indianapolis’ north side Tuesday.

It happened at a bus shelter on Michigan Road near 79th Street.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers say the driver swerved into the bus shelter, ripping it apart with the victim inside.

Kristen McGuire, one of the first people on the scene, said she comforted the distraught driver while two other people helped the victim.

“The driver was getting out of her car and she was really distraught,” said McGuire. “She just kept saying she was sorry and she didn’t know what happened.”

The victim was taken to St. Vincent Hospital to be treated for her injuries. She was last listed in fair condition.

IMPD has not released the identity of the driver or whether that driver will face charges in the crash.
