INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Public Schools Board of Commissioners voted in favor of a new $315 million referendum that will now be up to voters to approve this November.

The newest proposal will raise $315 million over the next eight years. The board had previously approved a $52 million for capital that will also be on the November ballot.

The latest proposal is still a drastic drop from IPS' initial $1 billion proposal last year but is more than three times more than the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce's $100 millionproposal that was approved last week.

The Indy Chamber's proposal would have come with drastic cuts across the district including half of IPS' Central Office staff, reducing the teacher workforce by 12 percent and getting rid of more school buildings.

The new proposal allows some of the updates without the drastic cuts across the board.
