INDIANAPOLIS -- The Broad Ripple Village Association has asked for volunteers to help remove invasive plants along the Monon Trail in Broad Ripple on Sunday.

Organizers plan to tackle the overgrown brush and invasive honeysuckle between Chipotle and McDonalds along Broad Ripple Avenue.

Staff at the village association needs 20 volunteers to help in the cleanup effort. MidTown Trees will bring heavy equipment on site to assist in the removal.

Volunteers will use loppers and hand saws to cut down undergrowth and assist in moving the trimmings to a chipper and spreading mulch.

Volunteers should wear long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toed shoes. BRVA will provide gloves, safety glasses and other tools needed.

Organizers said getting rid of invasive plants near the Monon Trail and along the White River will help create a healthier eco-system around the area. The invasive plant removal will last from 9:30 a.m. until noon.

Those interested in becoming a volunteer and sign up here.
