BROAD RIPPLE, Ind. --  The community stepped up in a big way to help a Broad Ripple nonprofit replace thousands of dollars in stolen furniture.

In October, surveillance cameras at Joy’s House captured a thief taking furniture and mums on their front porch.

Joy’s House is an adult day care service located on Broad Ripple Avenue.

Kittle’s and the Meridian Street United Methodist Church donated furniture, as well as scholarship funding to help families who need services from Joy’s House.

“All things work out for good when you’ve got a good heart and a good mission,” Candace Preston, caregiver program director at Joy’s House. “That’s who we are.

Nothing’s going to keep us down.”

The suspect, Jerry Gammon, was arrested and charged with burglary and theft.

Because he had previous convictions for theft, the judge sentenced him to prison time.

Gammon will not be released from prison until at least October 2018, records show.

Joy’s House is so thankful for the donated furniture and scholarships.

“It means a lot because we’re so community minded,” said Preston. “It’s a really big deal.”
