Brutal cold leaves some homes without heat

INDIANAPOLIS — These are busy days for furnace repair technicians.

Extreme cold puts extreme strain on heating systems, and when something breaks, repairs are needed as soon as possible.

David Hayes was inside his home wearing a parka waiting for an update on repairs to his natural gas furnace.

The furnace was down and he was worried how the cold temperatures would affect his grandchildren, a three-month-old and a 17-month-old he and his wife are babysitting.

"My wife she has some health problems. Having grandbabies over here I wouldn't want to jeopardize my precious family," said Hayes. If I couldn't get this fixed, I'd have to make alternative arrangements."

Thankfully, technician Ron Kazee had good news.

It was just a sensor that needed cleaning.

"In this type of weather, a couple of minutes without heat can be dangerous to folks, dangerous to plumbing, so we have to address those issues as fast as we can get them fixed," said Kazee who is with Love Heating and Air Conditioning.

The Hayes family was one of the lucky ones.

The repair took just 20-minutes at the cost of a service call.
