INDIANAPOLIS -- A local grandmother is questioning her safety after she says a bullet came through the wall of her apartment, narrowly missing her as she was sitting on her couch.
Ms. T lives in the Lexington Park Apartments near 38th Street and Post Road.
She says the bullet came through her wall as she was getting her grandchildren ready to go to church.
“What if it had been my grandkids sitting here or what if it had been my 2-year-old on the couch,” said Ms. T. “The ‘what ifs’ are astronomical. The what if has a price no one wants to pay.”
She say several of her grandchildren were still at her home, after an overnight sleepover and birthday party Sunday morning when she heard the gunshot.
“This is not just an issue for me, this is an issue for the community. Bullets do not have eyeballs.”
According to a police report from the incident, the shot appears to have come from next door.
RTV6 asked the apartment complex about what they are doing to keep their tenants safe.
The manager says they are wrapping up their investigation into the shot that was fired, and they plan to evict the people responsible.
They also say materials have been ordered to fix the ceiling in the tenant’s apartment ceiling.
Ms. T says it took police 30 minutes to respond to her call about the shooting, and she wishes officers would have arrived sooner. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says that since no one was injured, the call was dispatched as “lower priority” and officers did arrive within a reasonable time frame.
