INDIANAPOLIS – The Capitol Avenue bridge on Fall Creek reopened to traffic Monday after six months of being closed for repairs.
The bridge, which closed in April, reopened with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Construction was planned to be finished within the next year or two.
"Well this bridge was not scheduled to be done for a year or two, but we had the money,” said Doug Day. "The money became available and we were shovel ready. When the money becomes available and you're shovel ready, you tend to go for it, you tend to make it happen. I love this bridge; I think it is beautiful."
While the bridge is open to traffic, repairs will continue underneath, which could mean occasional lane closures until completed.
