Customers want shoes back after repair store closes unexpectedly

INDIANAPOLIS -- Customers of a local shoe repair shop were left shoeless after the store suddenly closed its doors.

Shu Renu near 65th Street and Keystone Avenue closed unexpectedly back in July.

The only notice is a sign posted on the door that says the store owner is having health issues and they’ve had to close.

“We’ve been using Shu Renu for a few years,” said Mary Schatz. “We like the owner, Michael, very nice man.”

Schatz said she dropped a pair of shoes and a few belts off to be repaired back in July and she still hasn’t gotten them back.

“First, I was concerned about Michael, he was really good at his craft and trade,” said Schatz. “Then it was frustrating; we had nowhere to get our shoes back. We looked in the dumpsters to see if the inventory got cleared out by the business owner.”

Several other customers are also in the same boat. Gwendolyn Patton says she was a loyal customer of Shu Renu for more than nine years.

“I just want my things back, whether it's done or not, I just want my things back, that’s all,” said Patton.

One consumer complaint has already been filed with the Attorney General’s Office against Shu Renu.

The Better Business Bureau advises any other customers who never received items back to do the same.

“If they are not responding to phone calls, or visits to the store, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau,” said Tim Maniscalo, President and CEO Better Business Bureau of Central Indiana. “Hopefully, between the two of us, we can get them to return the items and move on this.”

After searching records and trying to contact the owners of Shu Renu, RTV6 did find that Kroger owns the property, but does not manage it. The business has not filed for bankruptcy and is not registered as “required” with the Secretary of State’s Office. We have not yet been able to contact the owners but will continue looking into the situation.
