INDIANAPOLIS – More than 80 dogs from Puerto Rico arrived in Indiana Monday night as shelters in their communities are overwhelmed with animals because of Hurricane Maria.

All 82 dogs will be taken to shelters across the Midwest. Some will be driven to Wisconsin and Cincinnati while others will be housed at the Humane Society of Indianapolis until they find permanent homes.

The dogs will be evaluated and then put up for adoption.
