Downtown Indy interchange to cause less confusion for drivers

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- Those living on the Near North side, and likely many drivers who use Fall Creek Boulevard in and out of downtown Indianapolis no longer need fear at least one-infamous spider.

The interchange known as “The Spider” has eliminated the confusing web of intersections, signage and traffic lights since many of its “legs” have now been removed.

This is the point where Delaware Street, Washington Boulevard, and Talbott Street all intersect at Fall Creek Boulevard just north of the Delaware Street bridge.

It’s also the access point to Pennsylvania Street.

The Department of Public Works has finished the $541,000 project, which includes pedestrian crosswalks and signals. It also removed some of the spider “legs.” Access to Washington Boulevard and Talbott Street is cut off, making the area more pedestrian and resident-friendly.

With that, many of those in the Mapleton-Fall Creek neighborhood are ready to celebrate.

They will have a transformation celebration next Friday at the park around the new sculpture, Silver Fall, the park’s artistic cornerstone.

Doug Day of Destination Fall Creek says the best time to see the Silver Fall sculpture will be at sunset, about 8:30 p.m.
