INDIANAPOLIS — A driver is in critical condition after he struck another vehicle and went airborne off the interstate and into a building.

Indianapolis Fire Department officials say the 44-year-old driver was on I-65 South at 38th Street and Industrial Boulevard when he clipped a van and went airborne into a building, splitting his truck in half.

The driver was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

There were seven teens and an 18-year-old driver in the van. All were taken to the hospital to be checked out but are expected to be okay.

The one person inside the building when the crash happened was not injured. Fire officials say the building was set for a grand opening on Saturday.
