78-year-old man found dead in vehicle on city's east side

INDIANAPOLIS -- A 78-year-old man was found dead inside a vehicle on the city's East side, and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has opened a homicide investigation.

The man was found around 10:30 p.m. Thursday inside a Chevrolet Avalanche truck in the parking lot of a McDonald's in the 9000 block of 38th Street.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene after friends of the victim said he never met up with them and they went looking for him. They saw his truck and found him unresponsive inside.

IMPD has identified the victim as Walter Timmons. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators said Timmons was a regular in the area. 

An exact manner or cause of death has not yet been released.
