INDIANAPOLIS -- Eli Lilly announced Tuesday that it was ending testing on an experimental drug meant to battle Alzheimer’s disease.

The news comes after an independent researcher found that the drug, which is still in development, was unlikely to work on patients with early Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The company says they are ending the trial because it wasn’t working out, not because of any safety concerns from the testing.

Lilly says it plans to immediately begin working on another experimental Alzheimer’s drug.
