INDIANAPOLIS -- Four firefighters and a driver were injured after a car going 90 miles per hour slammed into the back of an Indianapolis fire truck Friday evening.

The crash happened in front of the fire station on Tibbs Avenue just after 9 p.m.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, a man was traveling approximately 90 miles per hour and told officers that he did not see the fire engine backing into the fire station before he hit it.

IFD says the apparatus was following standard protocol with lights on while backing into the fire station after returning from a separate call.

The driver that hit the fire truck jumped out of the car and started to run until firefighters called him back.

Four firefighters were transported for non-life threatening injuries. The driver was also taken to the hospital, his condition is unknown.

The accident remains under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
