Franklin Township residents concerned over proposed housing development

Posted

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- People living in Franklin Township are nervous about a proposed development that could bring hundreds of new people to an already crowded area and they expressed those concerns at a township meeting Wednesday evening.

The development would add hundreds of homes near South Franklin Road and East Southport Road.

The biggest concerns raised at the Franklin Township Civic League meeting were the increase in traffic on the already busy two lane roads and the overcrowding of already crowded schools.

“Overcrowding of schools, right now the schools are overcrowded for what they are,” said Whitney McCoy. “And the country roads can’t handle the additional traffic of the people they want to add.”

The Franklin Township Land Use Committee will give held the meeting Wednesday to get public insight. The group will give a recommendation about whether they approve the development in the area but ultimately it will be up to the Indianapolis City Council to decide if anything gets done.
