PERRY TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- The legacy of a coach and teacher is being honored once again this year in Perry Township with a memorial run.
Coach Tom Hathaway was a cross-country coach and Biology teacher at Perry Township schools for more than 40 years.
He also coached runners at the University of Indianapolis and taught marathon and half-marathon training classes.
Coach Hathaway was quite a runner himself. Among his accomplishments - running a full marathon in each of the 50 states.
He passed away in April 2012.
"Coach Hathaway's Running South" will take place on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Perry Stadium at Southport High School.
The event includes a 5K, 10K, 1 mile fun run and walk. There's also a 1/4 mile for the kids where they can run with the Perry Township school mascots.
Money raised will be used to fund educator grants and the Coach Hathaway Scholarship.
