WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- Construction can now being on two new elementary schools on Washington Township following a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday.
The new Willow Lake Elementary School will be located at 7535 Harcourt Road where the old Harcourt Elementary used to be.
Clearwater Elementary will be at 3575 E. 79th St. where Wyandotte School was once located.
Harcourt and Wyandotte will both have to be demolished before construction begins.
The new schools carry a combined price tag of $45.7 million, the cost to be paid for by a $185 million construction project referendum approved by Washington Township voters in November.
The two new schools are expected to open in Fall 2019.
The school district also plans to renovate existing elementary, middle and high schools over the next five to seven years.
The district also plans on re-evaluating attendance boundaries for overcrowding in its elementary and middle schools.
