INDIANAPOLIS -- Harrison Ford has received the world's leading award for animal conservation.
The Jane Alexander Global Wildlife Ambassador Award receives its namesake from the Tony and Emmy-winning actor and conservation advocate Jane Alexander and honors those who have been voices for wildlife.
Ford is known for his contributions to nature and conservation. By spending time in Indonesia, he was able to understand the harsh effects the palm oil crisis had on orangutans. He also voiced the film, The Ocean, which helped protect over 40 million acres on three continents as apart of the Global Conservation Fund. In a release he says,
"If we don't stop the destruction of nature, nothing else will matter. Jobs won't matter, our economies won't matter, our freedoms and ethics won't matter, our children's education and potential won't matter. If we end the ability of a healthy natural world to sustain humanity nothing else will matter."
Ford will be given the Jane Alexander Global Wildlife Ambassador Award during the Indianapolis Prize Gala in downtown Indianapolis on September 29, 2018.
